Is Homeopathy Part of your Wellness Plan?

Updated: Oct 16, 2019

Homeopathic remedies support and gently resolve so many issues. Suggestions for adding them to your medicine cabinet.

Homeopathy is a wonderful choice for individuals and families looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid or limit pharmaceutical drugs in addressing minor health and wellness concerns. Homeopathic remedies are readily available, inexpensive, have a long shelf life and are easy to learn how to use.

Homeopathy is its own branch of therapeutic natural medicine, using substances in nature made into homeopathic remedies through a very specific process to address imbalances in the immune system. Homeopathy is not the same thing as Chinese medicine or herbal medicine and it should not be confused with the concept of “home remedies” such as apple cider vinegar.

Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the innate healing power of the individual so that all physiological systems function at their best. It acts on an energetic level and has a broad effect, shifting mental, emotional and physical symptoms. Since homeopathy is used to assist people rather than treat disease, anyone, whatever his or her diagnosis, can benefit from homeopathic care. Homeopathy helps by increasing the individual’s strength and resistance to disease and can be effective in relieving many chronic health complaints, some examples include — but are not limited to — migraines, allergies, chronic pain, asthma, depression and anxiety. In short, homeopathy helps remove barriers so that you may live your life as you choose.

Homeopathy has truly stood the test of time. It started over 200 years ago in Germany by a medical physician, Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopathy is based on the “Law of Similars,” which states that a substance that causes a particular disease in a healthy individual will cure the same disease in an ill person. Homeopaths use this principle in selecting the appropriate remedy for an individual. For example, when chopping red onion, it is common to experience burning, watery eyes, sneezing or coughing. If someone experienced these symptoms in a cold or allergy attack, the homeopathic preparation of red onion, Allium cepa, may be the remedy to relieve the suffering.

According to the website for the National Center for Homeopathy, over 100 million people worldwide use homeopathy and it has been used by greats throughout history including Gandhi, Dizzy Gillespie and the British royal family. In India, homeopathy is part of the nation’s medical system, while in various countries in Europe a high percentage of physicians utilize or refer patients for homeopathic care.

Homeopathic remedies are made at special U.S. Food and Drug Administration-regulated and approved homeopathic pharmacies according to very high standards of purity. The substances are prepared by a process of repeated dilution and shaking, which makes them capable of stimulating the healing process. Remedies are given to stimulate the whole body to heal itself, while by contrast herbs and modern medicines are given to take away specific symptoms from parts of the body.

A common misconception is that homeopathy is not scientifically tested. This is a false belief: Hahnemann’s discoveries began through scientific inquiry and in his lifetime he researched, created, tested and cataloged data on 99 remedies. Homeopaths have added to his research over the past 200 years through researching, testing, using and cataloging information on the remedies. Now, in our modern era, specific laboratory and trial data are also being conducted to add to this historical research. Today, several thousand remedies make up the homeopathic Materia medica.

The beauty of homeopathy also exists in how easy it is to attain and learn how to use. Homeopathic remedies are readily available to collect and keep on hand for issues of concern. Due to their gentle nature, they are safe to use for all ages: including infants and pregnant women (with the permission of their doctors). Additionally, consultation is available through highly trained homeopathic specialists. Look for a consultant who has attended a specific training program for homeopathy and who has had to gain experience in a clinical setting.

Homeopathy is a wonderful choice for anyone looking to build strength and vitality in his or her health and wellness. If it is not part of your wellness plan, get started today!
