The Missing Piece

“Why did you wait so long to have me!?” our daughter was lamenting last weekend. She is not so pleased to be the only child left at home while her adult brothers, whom she is very close to, live outside of the home. One son is fully grown and flown and the other in his junior year of college. My husband and I were amusingly talking about her question the next day as we were reminiscing: why did we wait so long to have our third child? The truth was that we thought we were done after raising two rambunctious boys.. We thought that was enough energy for young children, sleepless nights, carpools, school assignments, night time coughs, etc. But at one point we just felt it….something was missing. It had all gone so fast that suddenly we felt that we just weren’t done and wanted to do it all over again. Maybe even attempt to savor it this time.
